This is Chengdu Shadow Puppetry Art Museum. The flowing light and shadow engrave the everlasting intangible cultural heritage of the Bashu region. Rooted in traditional shadow puppetry art, the Museum takes red Party spirit as its soul. Now we enter the first exhibition hall. It shows the origin, development, classic repertoires and inheritance history of Chengdu shadow puppetry. Boasting a long history, Bashu shadow puppetry grew from folk customs to maturity and prosperity through generations. Shadow stories spread virtues and carry fine moral qualities of Chinese nation. Through the ages, shadow puppetry has served to in enlightening and uniting people. In hard times, artists used shadow plays to inspire people and unite public strength. Generations of inheritors devote their whole life to protecting folk culture quietly. Persistent inheritance reflects the faithful original aspiration of the Communists. They protect cultural roots with exquisite craftsmanship and rigorous attitude. Guided by the Party’s cultural construction, they integrate red stories into shadow play creation. Moving forward, we come to the second exhibition hall of fine works. It collects ancient puppets, classic works and modern themed shadow art pieces. Each puppet goes through complicated procedures like material selection, carving, coloring and assembly. Every procedure is full of craftsman's efforts, showing the unique charm of traditional handicrafts. They feature vivid shapes, delicate lines, elegant colors and distinctive Sichuan artistic style. There are folk puppets and red-themed works praising revolutionary history and spirit. Every exhibit embodies the wisdom and hard work passed down by folk craftsmen. It also witnesses cultural prosperity guided by Party building and national heritage protection. Shadow art spreads positive energy and cultivates people’s patriotism with traditional culture. It conveys positive energy and strengthens national cultural confidence with excellent works. A lamp of light shines through millennia; a trace of shadow guards the loyal soul.
